Geography Undergraduate Program
The undergraduate geography program combines a broad range of related subjects in both the natural and social sciences. Physical Geography stresses climatology, geomorphology, hydrology, soil science, biogeography, and ecology; Human Geography focuses on economic and transportation analyses, urban land use, rural resource use, socio-economic and political development, tourism, and environmental problems. Course structure stresses library search, oral and written presentations; many offerings include tutorials, seminars, labs, and field trips. The department has well equipped laboratories, and up-to-date field equipment for research, as well as specifically designed areas for research in human geography.
Our expanded, upgraded technical program includes remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS), computer cartography, digital image analysis, and quantitative analysis. Methods courses are supported by department-based graphics terminals, digitizers, image analysis workstations, and appropriate software.
